Al,
At was at the gym this afternoon and I decided to watch FOX news......its okay....there was hardly anyone at the gym and people here don't freak out if you turn on FOX News so long as you turn to another station when you're finished. <g>
During the course of the hour I spent on the treadmill, they made references to Hairy Kerry and Dean the bean, mocked Clark's change in his view on the war, critiqued, in a mocking way, the debate among the 8 Democrats.
Then they had some retired general come on the show. Like all retired generals on FOX, he had just flown in from Iraq and was suffering from jet lag. The first words out of his mouth were that all the Iraqis he met wanted Americans to know that they love us. In other words, the current violence has nothing to do with Iraqis and, in fact, is a bizarre and inexplicable fluke ala D.Ray.
And D. Ray is right......according to FOX, there are no problems in Iraq. In fact, things couldn't be better. According to FOX, our troops had found a huge cache of weapons that FOX was desperately trying to make into WMD [some of the weapons they claimed could be used to knock a helicopter out of the sky]. You would have thought Saddam had surrendered the way FOX went on about this find. When they finally showed "the cache", it turned out to be a few boxes of bullets and rifles. lol
And then they show pics of buildings under construction. Forget that they've been showing the same pics for a couple of months. Forget that some places in Iraq still don't have power and water. Forget that new construction requires major money. The idea that new construction on major buildings is underway stretches one's imagination and begs the question of whether FOX News has a clue.
Honestly, the experience was fairly scary. If anything, in the last few months, they have become less 'fair and balanced' and a lot more strident in their views. Watching them was like a scene from Big Bro is Watching, or a facsimile of Soviet doublespeak. No wonder Americans who watch are confused about the war. Not once in an hour was there any mention of today's bombing attack on the hotel in Babdad.
D.Ray accuses CNN and other mainstream media of being biased. Maybe they are but FOX takes biased reporting to a whole new level. I swear.......they are more Stepford Americans than the real thing.
