Well, I recall in those early days NSCP vowing never to be bought by MSFT. I also recall thinking that the lady doth protest too much and figured it was a possibility - at a premium of course.

Indeed the trial is exposing some interesting facets to how these companies approach business. No as good as the OJ trial, but probably longer running.
