No. The pool of genetic diversity needed to domesticate the wolf was not available to the small bands of men. They did not have enough wolf pets to breed the friendliest. Large bands of wolves hung out near these people and they had enough diversity that the ones that trusted man hung out closer to camp and bred with each other. In the case of other domestic animals men did the breeding
