That was true in my granddaddies day, but times have changed.

It is still true in many parts of the south. Often its not the parents pulling the students out. A lot of it is white welfare. When the farms went bust many farmers lost or sold their land around the farm and live in the country home on government welfare. You don't need an education. These are the typical rednecks which you see with a truck and guns in the gunrack. If they see food (deer, turkey, etc.) near a road they drive up and shoot it. I still have relatives that live in the country, its very bad, but getting better since the welfare bill Clinton signed.
