Absence of evidence, evidently absent The refrain, repeated ad naseum "Bush (since 9/11/2001, anyway) has protected us from terrorist attacks in the United States." This premise, of course, is a by-product of 85-some-odd thousand nuances, spins, twists, turns, and deus ex machinismas that seem to converge on some point between "Saddam bad, freedom at gunpoint good" and "preemptive war."
Of course, this being by most accounts the only "provable" value Bush brings to the table, I would like to point out, by the same absence of happenings, other things that the Bush administration has protected us against since taking office:
Giant asteroid impacts Flesh-eating zombie attacks Upward mobility Swarms of locusts Invaders from Mars The evils of alternative energy sources The second coming of Lawrence Welk Major earthquakes in California I'm sure there are thousands of more things that haven't happened since 9/11/2001, and therefore Bush has protected us from.
