mortgage deduction or no mortgage deduction, i think you'll be seeing people walking away from (if the property cannot be sold) from high maintenance, high priced mortgages in favor of smaller 'roof over the head' type dwellings (your $500k plus 'aspirational' borrower is dead in the water)...those who have money still, will look for more tax friendly countries....
