I must ask you, Steven, what "higher ambitions" could Ashcroft possibly have? Presidential? No way. Maybe Supreme Director of the Internal Secret Police? Oh, yeah, we haven't got one of those. Yet. I think he has Presidential wet dreams. I think he perceives himself as the logical political leader of the religious right, and I think he believes, or at least hopes, that this might someday propel him to a serious candidacy. I think that's in the fantasy nightmare category, and I can't imagine it happening, but that doesn't mean he's not thinking of it.
