56K is indeed a good alternative for us mobile users....I bet Pts has a real hard time provisioning his cable (6 months in advance) for each of his trips. <G>
I've never had a problem where I could not dial out, but cable is available in less than 5% of the locations where dial-in service is up.
Not to mention the tariffs for out-of-locality service (long distance for you and I) must be a bummer. <G>
And for those users who must have T1 access, those routers can fill up an entire breifcase!

Unless your really into this Internet thing (multimedia), the added capacity of T1 access really gets you little as an investor, for the basic tools of most reside locally on their desktop, and data is downloaded at the end of day, or in small peices throughout the day. I just downloaded 812 stocks worth of price and fundamental data (which by the way is limited at the Dial Data end, not my end) in 4 minutes. I traded 12 stocks today, and read 14 e-mail messages, and broused SI of course for the usual spewings on the ASND thread. My online broker was clogged in the early AM (as usual). Would I be able to get an order though in the AM if I had an OC3 connecion? Nope. That broker would still be down. Would a T3 make my trades execute faster to the second broker I use as backup? Nope. It still would have taken over a minute to confirm.
A fast Internet connection does not a good trader make.
But then some people feel the need for crutches of some sort to make up for lost inch-age in other areas. ;-)
