Eudora turns into Penelope [sadly] shortnews.com It's now officially open-source software.

Qualcomm has donated the Eudora email program to the open-source community. The software can now be downloaded and used freely and the source code has been made available to developers who can modify and distribute it.

The program has been picked up by the Mozilla Foundation and is being developed alongside the foundation's well known email program Thunderbird under the code name Penelope.

Eudora was first developed in the late 1980s by Steve Domer, a university student, before being acquired by Qualcomm. At it's height the program had tens of millions of users. More recently it has struggled against competitors despite good reviews.
