The names cited in an indictment of private eye Anthony Pellicano read like a road map leading to Bertram Fields and his famous clients.

His name is nowhere in Monday’s 60-page indictment of celebrity gumshoe and alleged wiretapper Anthony Pellicano.

But the shadow of 76-year-old lawyer Bertram Fields, who for years employed Pellicano as an investigator, looms over the case. Listed throughout the indictment are a host of alleged victims, including such prominent names as actor Sylvester Stallone and comic Garry Shandling, who battled with Fields’ clients.

According to the federal indictment, Pellicano and his associates either allegedly wiretapped the victims, as with Stallone, or performed background checks on them, as with Shandling, using a database that is supposed to be restricted to law enforcement agencies.

This story is a constant reminder of how the media leaves out inconvenient elements of a story. Mr. Pellicano’s most famous clients –Bill and Hillary Clinton –are no where to be found in this story or in any recent story about him.

A quick Google search turns up more than a few references, so it can’t be that hard to do. Here are a few of those links including one which gives a brief biography of Mr. Pellicano. He is not the most savory of characters but perhaps that’s what made him so attractive to the Clintons.
