no I don't think that government can legislate much actually. But the problem is you have to have a little perspective here, walk a middle line and all of that.

Can't you see that any presentation to congress on the issue of offshoring can bring up examples like Juniper networks sending R&D offshore while they graciously accept a GIG-BE 50-100mm deal from the US government to serve as a showplace of US tech expertise- is going to cause a fair amount of outrage?

I suspect tax receipts for 03 underperform **again** (no reason not to expect this since the month by month statistics show no uptick whatsoever in personal income tax), and then where will the deficit be? 700 billion?

If the US economy weren't in the worst shape ever from a budget perspective this would be a different argument. With corporate taxes at 30s levels as % of GDP, I suspect corporate tax increases as a minimum to deal with the crisis, as well as some protectionist legislation. My big fear is that this will go way to far and cause more pain down the road. I think free trade proponents need a better plan than "let them eat cake". Hoping for moderation here.
