David, we've kind of made Iraq into a bright blue insect zapper. The question is whether we're attracting more bugs than we're killing.

It is a good analogy. I think we have to develop new techniques for killing these people. Better there than here, I guess.

The new choice of targets (Red Cross and the police stations) is an interesting development. This is where a president's leadership becomes critical: We have to have the courage to stay until the job is done, even in the face of pressure at home and abroad, even with an election underway at home where the opposition can take unrestricted pot-shots at the president.

We're doing the right things. I cannot conceive of a way this war could have been better fought.

Over the weekend, Powell discussed the way in which Wolfowitz was welcomed into the communities in Iraq. The people at large want us there and appreciate what we're doing. In the long run, the will of these terrorists to fight is going to diminish.
