An invasion of an independent Kurdistand wouldn't be "automatic," but it could easily raise tensions within Turkey, Iran and Syria, all of which have decent to large Kurd populations, and territory which a Kurdish state could claim as theirs by right, if the population of those territories were permitted to vote on the matter. None of the above three states would like such a thing.
