Right thinking Blog - Voodoo Economics

Wow, you've almost got to admire the balls it takes to stand up in front of a group of people and make these statements.
<font size=4>
John Kerry said Monday that his plan to create 10 million jobs would include 433,000 jobs in Pennsylvania, the first time he's cited a specific number for the state.

Kerry also pledged to pump $1 billion into Pennsylvania's state budget to offset revenue losses he attributed to President Bush's tax cuts.

And where does Kerry plan on getting this extra billion? Raising taxes perhaps, by repealing Bush's tax cuts? Yeah, that will just keep that economy chugging along, won't it? And I'd be really interested to hear where kerry is getting this 10 million jobs number. It's too nice and round a figure to have been actually calculated by someone, I guarantee they just pulled it out of the air.

At any rate, I'd love to hear Kerry's magic formula for materializing jobs out of the air. All a president can do is give business a framework on which it can create jobs itself, and Bush has done that.

Kerry's job creation plan relies on a number of initiatives, including a catastrophic health care plan, a plan to close corporate loopholes that encourage companies to move jobs overseas and a corporate tax cut that he said would benefit 98 percent of American companies.

You know, I really wish that the public at large had a more fundamental understanding of how jobs and wealth are created. Jobs that move overseas mean that there will be new jobs created here in America, just not the same kind of jobs. I detest this type of pandering protectionism.

The jobs number for Pennsylvania was based on past growth patterns that could vary in the future, said the Massachusetts senator.

Therein lies the rub, my friends. Kerry just promised the people of Pennsylvania something he can never deliver on, so he gives a small disclaimer at the end to give him room to get out of it later.
