I didn't serve there.

And I don't know how I'd react if I'd been there. Maybe I'd have used the "get out of jail free card" like Kerry did.

OTOH, I'd like to think I'd have concluded, I'm here for a 12 month hitch, and I'll see it out.

John Boy didn't do that.

But, as I say, I wasn't there, and don't know how I'd have reacted had I been.
