While you might think they had plenty of time to move their money, reports says that deposits only declined 2.2% leading up to the crisis. That means that 97.8% of deposits stayed put! (Now much of that is likely deposits under 100k Euros.)

Lots of people might not be as smart as we think. And they were probably being reassured by "smart" folks in Cyprus that "everything is ok, don't worry, your money is safe". Yea, right.
