Lundin says buy Tamerlane, another Kent start-up

2006-05-01 17:41 ET - In the News

In the April, 2006, edition of the Gold Newsletter, Brien Lundin says buy Tamerlane Ventures Inc., another one of Margaret "Peggy" Kent's new startups. Mr. Lundin has never before recommended Tamerlane, now trading at 79 cents. Tamerlane is Ms. Kent's base metal version of Century Mining Corp. The company's current flagship is the Pine Point mine in the Northwest Territories. Between 1963 and 1987, the mine produced 2.3 million tonnes of lead and 7.3 million tonnes of zinc. The mine eventually closed due to declining grades and escalating water-pumping costs. Ms. Kent clearly thinks her crew can bring this mine back to life. Helping them is a solid infrastructure that comprises paved road access, a nearby rail head and on-site hydro power. However, Tamerlane is banking on soaring zinc and lead prices and new processing technology to take the mine to profitability. Mr. Lundin says there is still a lot of the ore around. Tamerlane's estimates peg the four main historic resources at 70 million tonnes of minable material, with an in situ resource of over $1.2-billion (U.S.). Of course, pulling that stuff out will be a challenge, says Mr. Lundin. The company has recently upped its proceeds target for a soon-to-close private placement from $3.5-million to $5-million. Mr. Lundin is starting to follow Ms. Kent, president of Tamerlane. She is also president of Century Mining.
