Nokia To Supply GSM 1800 Network to Jilin Mobile Communications Co. in China

Nov. 27, 2000--Nokia has signed a contract to supply a complete GSM 1800 network to Jilin Mobile Communications Co. (JMCC) in China. The agreement, valued at over USD 15 million was signed together with Nokia joint venture in China: Beijing Nokia Mobile Telecommunications Co., Ltd. (BNMT).

It is the first major infrastructure supply contract for Nokia and JMCC.

Deliveries will begin at the end of September this year and the system will be put into use early in 2001 by JMCC. The company currently has 1 million subscribers. The new GSM 1800 network will bring enhanced coverage and additional capacity to the cities of Changchun, Yanji, Siping and Songyuan.

Nokia will deliver a complete GSM solution including mobile switching centers, base station controllers, and base stations. The Nokia Network Management System will be supplied as well as a full range of Professional Services covering Network Planning, Implementation and Removal Services and Training.

At present, China is Nokia's second largest country in the world in terms of sales revenue, and Nokia's investment in China already exceeds USD 1 billion. Nokia has established eight joint ventures; one wholly owned manufacturing plant and a research & development center in China. Nokia currently employs approximately 5,000 people in China.
