David, between the H & Q analysis and the story that ran today ("All Stars") there's a lot of positive opinions on ASND's outlook, if only over the next 2 years or so.

But the part about "High Speed Data over Copper" is perhaps more important over the period 1.5 - 4 years out, maybe even longer. The reasons given are why ASND needs to be developing products to meet those areas of the infrastructure - and I believe they are.

Some 6 weeks ago TeleChoice carried a news article about the RBOCs jointly issuing a Request for Proposal (from Ameritech but repre senting many)to more than 60 vendors for a device called a DSLAM - Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer. This device is to collect the incoming ADSL traffic, segment it and reassemble it in ATM cells to hand off to the ATM switching gear.

Telcos involved or which have endorsed the concept include Ameritch, BA.GTE, Bell South, US WEST, SBC, Pac Bell and Bell Canada.

So the field covers the "modem" at the user's site, the gear in the neighborhood box and the COs where several companies really shine. This should be a real dogfight; hopefully ASND will be a top contender.
