Ernie: Yes, indeed over copper. And cat 5 wiring is planned.

From right off the gigabit-ethernet web page; also there are comments about both fiber cable and copper there:

Now, here's the question...MRVC has mentioned "extending distances." Do they mean they already have a jump on the aforementioned? I mean, like are they ahead of the pack in signal transmission over copper?
