[Amati's Strength]

Hi Steve:

<<If the trend in modems is to have software upgradeability (and I believe that it is, even with ADSL which can be tweaked and fine tuned to squeeze better cleaner rates), that will be done through chips like TI's C6X (and NOT MOT's CG). As I understand it, this means that C6X will be "non-standard". In fact it means that with fine tuning, non-standard may be (and in the future likely will be) much better than (the current) ANSI standard. Where will Amati's strength/leverage be then?>>

I agree with you in that upgradeability implies making an improvement on the Standard DMT. The C6X solution will be "non-standard" in the sense that it will not be equal to the standard, that does not mean that it will deviate, or should I say, contradict the standard. All it means is that it will include more than the standard (Standard+), i.e. it will offer something more than plain standard DMT.

Now, where will Amati's strength/leverage be in this case?? I have discussed my thoughts on this point in a prior post:

techstocks.com

In summary:
To add value to the product requires technical talent and know how. Know how about the way the existing standard could be optimally implemented and just what kinds of improvements can be made on the standard. My take: Judging simply on talent, there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever in my mind as to who has the most of it. I am just glad that I own my little share of this establishment <g>.

<<Would someone "miss the boat" *overnight*, so to speak, or would buying into strength (after some sense of what Amati can sign $$) be another option?>>

Valid point. I just want to say that neither should someone sell at the current time simply because the $$$ strenght is not currently in the stock. I, for one, am certainly comfortable holding on to my share.

<<2) because as an investor, I want to know BOTH sides of the story, but usually only find one here.>>

Thanks to people like you, I think you would agree that the above is currently no longer true.

All the above are, of course, IMHO.

Regards,

Edward
