Committee Bay Resources Ltd.: New High Grade Gold Intersections at West Plains

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Aug 8, 2006 (CCNMatthews via COMTEX News Network) --
Committee Bay Resources Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:CBR) is pleased to announce that the first six drill holes at the West Plains area, at the southern end of the Committee Bay project, include intersections of 13.14 g/t Au over a length of 8.0m (6WP006) and 19.65 g/t Au over a length of 3.0m (6WP010). These intersections extend the high grade gold identified last summer (See CBR news release August 25, 2005) for over 200m along strike and 80m to depth. The high grade zone coincides with a strong EM (Electromagnetic) anomaly that extends for 8km along strike. In addition, two sub-parallel structures, with coincident Mag-EM anomalies that extend for over 5km, have yet to be evaluated by drilling.

Drilling will continue in the area of the recent high grade intersections and begin to test the sub-parallel structures for the duration of the summer. The addition of a second rig to accelerate the drill program is now being considered. These holes are part of a $3 million Phase 1 program previously announced at the 100% owned Committee Bay project in Nunavut (See CBR press release - July 4, 2006).

Drilling in 2005 intersected a 45m wide shear zone with iron formation containing broad bands of semi-massive pyrrhotite cut by centimetre to metre scale quartz veins. The southern-most intersection was 6.04 g/t Au over a length of 36.77m including 25.3 g/t Au over a length of 3.07m and 13.39 g/t Au over length of 3.04m (see CBR press release - August 25, 2005). The initial six holes completed in 2006 surround the discovery drill hole and have only tested 200m of a shear zone that is coincident with a large magnetic-EM anomaly.

The geology intersected by these holes is comprised of a mixed assemblage of mafic volcanic, ultramafic and sedimentary rocks with interbedded silicate iron formation (Figures 1 and 2). This structural corridor or shear zone is developed roughly parallel to the strike of the stratigraphy with sulphide mineralization developed within most of the lithological units. The dip of the mineralization and stratigraphic units is essentially vertical and correlation between drill holes on each section is relatively straight forward.

The strongest gold mineralization is associated with strongly sheared and sulphidized iron formation rich sediments adjacent to a mafic volcanic layer. Significant silicification and sulphides (with fine specks of visible gold) can also occur within the mafic volcanic and non-iron formation sediments where they are strongly deformed within the shear zone. These veins are locally banded and contain up to 15% pyrrhotite. The high grade zones are silica flooded with fine grain pyrrhotite disseminated throughout.

CBR maintains an extensive quality control program in the preparation, shipping and checking of all samples from the property. The program is supervised by Dean McDonald, P.Geo. Ph.D., Vice President of the Company, who is the Qualified Person as defined by NI 43-101. The Committee Bay greenstone belt is 300 km long and is one of the longest and least explored greenstone belts in Canada. The Company holds greater than 900,000 acres of land with prospective geology in the Committee Bay area and controls over 85% of the belt.
