BTW, as promised, I said to my brother (an IBM management type who's deals with the telecom end) this weekend that I'd heard about an upturn in telecom spending. After he got done laughing, I asked if the trend towards soft-switches (software switches) was still strong. He indicated it was indeed. I never did get an answer regarding the upturn in telecom spending, however. I would tend to interpret the hysterical laughter as an indication that whatever spending is happening is pretty much routine maintenance. However, I may have to wait until the next holiday to get a less cloaked answer.
