John, you pointed out that A.B. said that PerfecTV was one of CUBE's big wins.................

Any idea what this means (Sony is a partner in JSkyB, and built the digital studio for it). I think that it means that JSkyB will use PerfecTV boxes for its system, with an add-on descrambler. The PerfecTV boxes are built by Sony -- with CUBE inside??

JSkyB, PerfecTV to Use Sony
Conditional Access

June 17, 1997 (Tokyo) -- Japan Sky Broadcasting Co.,
Ltd. (JSkyB), which is planning to start digital satellite
broadcasting in 1998, is likely to use Sony Corp. conditional access
system, according to sources in the satellite broadcasting industry. The
conditional access system descrambles broadcast signals.
At a media briefing in late 1996, JSkyB announced that News
Datacom, a subsidiary of News Digital Systems, the digital
broadcasting technology company owned by News Corp., would be
supplying its conditional access system.
PerfecTV, first to launch digital satellite services in Japan, is using the
Sony system, a motivation behind JSkyB's announcement at the end of
1996 that the firm will use a method called SimulCrypt to be able to
share the same receiver used by PerfecTV.
That announcement was followed by Sony's decision to invest in
JSkyB, giving rise to speculation as to which conditional access system
would be used.
If JSkyB adopts the same Sony system used by PerfecTV, the two
services will have taken a major step toward a universal receiver.
