Not for pirates. In southeast Asia if they don't outright shoot you they throw their captives overboard unless they need them to drive or if they're a young lady they can sell into prostitution slavery. These people are ruthless and evil and need killing. Piracy has been a problem for a long time and many ships had been putting high-powered water cannon on board that they were supposed to use to spray approaching boats. But, if no one is in the crow's nest watching then the first they're going to know is when a pirate sticks a gun in their face. This is a major problem. Somalia has over 300 hostages and has captured 69 ships in the last few years. I read Maersk is rerouting many ships to avoid the Gulf of Aden meaning increased transit times, cost and wasted energy. Many ships are so stupid they make their entire voyage with ladders hanging over the side making as easy as possible for pirates to board. I think they should hire heavily armed soldiers of fortune that shoot on sight if pirates approach.
