What am I missing here?

On October 11th Staples projects 30% EPS growth for fiscal 2001 (over the 68 cents they earned in fiscal 2000 ended January 29th).

That computes to EPS of about 88 cents for fiscal 2001.

Current EPS consensus estimates of 15 analysts is 71 cents (ranging from 70 to 73 cents) for fiscal 2001.

Now keep in mind that the Staples projection was made only two weeks ago (just three weeks before the end of the third quarter). Add that to the fact that Staples is very proud of having met or exceeded analyst expectations for thirty consecutive quarters.

So, why haven't the analysts raised their estimates?

Am I missing something here, or is SPLS a no-brainer buy at 11-1/2?

Regards - Dale
