I must tell you, I don't know much about Ricoh. Although a little over a week ago I bought a Ricoh CD-RW. And overall I'm very happy! I've burnt 14 cd-r's, and no under-runs so many articles make a big deal about. The CD-RW interface is awkward and cumbersome; for instance you have to erase the whole disc before you can use the space over. But overall I think they make a good CD-RW product, and most importantly it was only $80 more ($515) then HP's CR-R ($435) product, which makes me believe they may be able to ship at the price points given in 1998.
