Well, it seems to me at least possible that a Nordic race, for example, might have adapted to a diet higher in meat than average. Considering the "melting pot" nature of the U.S. gene pool that might translate into variations between individuals. Just uninformed speculation on my part, but I do know that I gain weight faster on carbohydrates than anything else.
