Wind River Systems dropped 1 5/8 to 44 3/8 in even after the company reported second-quarter earnings of 14 cents a share, 2 cents ahead of consensus expectations. Revenue increased 47 percent to $22 million, at the higher end of analysts' projections. Officials at Alameda, Calif.-based Wind River said in a conference call that sales were "strong" in the U.S. market, which account for 70 percent of overall revenue. Operating margins expanded to 23 percent from 21 percent last year, and gross margins increased to 82 percent from 80 percent. Wind River added it will use the proceeds from its $125 million convertible subordinated notes announced last week will go toward investments in other technology companies and buildings for its Alameda headquarters.
