"Perhaps there is a big score card that judges you on courage and acts of kindness you have performed."
Surely....it may be so. Most everything I say here is geared to the primitive God concepts. Personally, I can imagine so many wonderful things and even wonderful Gods. I would never embrace the imagination of some clueless desert savage when I can begin with more knowledge than a million of them together could hope to amass.
Would a sane person jump out of a plane wearing wax wings (not the plane) when he has access to a parachute? Can any person with half a brain imagine for even half a second that ancient tales of butchery, racism, and self interest are anything other than what they obviously are?
Yes, life and the universe are mysterious. And yes...there may be layers of reality. But short of imagination (which roams everywhere and makes for wonderful stories and movies), there is not one shred of evidence to suggest that any one thing has permanence. And if there is anything written on the heart of a human--it is that she had a beginning...and that she will die...and end. So let us live well.
"a dry shallow belief that denies any super-natural aspects to humanity is equally diminishing."
I have seen death too often. And there were times when I hoped for irrational hopes. But I eat life every day and I have no reason whatsoever to suspect that I have not killed it or transformed it in doing so. I just had some steak with all the accoutrements. I heard a bit of moaning from somewhere. But it ended eventually. As far as I am concerned...if MY life lives on (and I think the idea is silly)...then every leaf of lettuce, and every radish, and every loon, and every golden retriever lives on.
"I've never understood the fascination with virgins"
In superstitious times before science, people believed that the spirit lived on in the children (the male children, of course...they have the sperm...nobody back then had a clue about eggs in women). The only way to be sure that your spirit sperm was in the new life was if you picked the fruit fresh from the vine and then put it in a sealed bag. That is why Moses and company butchered all the married women and kept the children for screwing. Obviously, the mature women could have given far more "satisfaction" if they had not been slaughtered. It is too bad that any of any age were slaughtered...but it was a primitive age of humanity. People thought that all things were caused by "spirits". People still talk about "spirits". They stammer and they yammer. They make a living...and then they die.
The funny thing is that ALL virgins get to do it as a virgin (if they so choose)...but many boys NEVER get a virgin. Of course, if you believe in Islam it is a sure thing...you just gotta die. The virgins are waiting there in heaven. And do they ever want you badly?
Virgins are pure and undefiled, so the sooner you can defile them the better. |
