Intel can release 300 Mhz Pentium II and still sell it as the top of the line with the attendant high margins. They can't be touched in the mobile arena with their 166 Mhz Mobile Pentium, another profit big profit area for Intel. Even the Pentium II 266 Mhz wipes out AMD's hand-picked samples. In the meantime, they still have the Pentium 200 and Pentium Pro 200 and there is plenty of room to maneuver insofar as pricing goes in that area. We don't know what AMD will have in any kind of volume (and that includes you) but we do know they haven't signed up a single major OEM. The whole thing is just one big question mark. AMD does not support SMP thus ensuring zero sales in the sever market. That is a fact, pure and simple, and arm-waving about proposed alternative standards is as meaningless as the K6 itself.

Finally, Intel will have very compelling visualization chips which can take up the slack in terms of profits should they decide to drop their prices. Watch for that tomorrow, the 24th of March, and don't forget that AMD's minuscule fabrication capacity is absolute zero in this all important area of 3D graphics, video and audio processing. It is my opinion that that technology, combined with the 1000 Mhz Merced, are compelling reasons not to save a few bucks on an unstable and unproven wanabee like the K6.
