After the close today EMC announced the aquisition of privately held McDATA
corp. EMC stated that the deal will be accretive to earnings of .08 to .10 for
1995. They are paying 230 million in stock for the company. McData specializes in
high- bandwidth networking solutions for large scale computing applications. They
had 150 million in revenues and are profitable.

I listened to a 5PM call by Ruettgers and Egan. They were very upbeat about the
potential of the combined companies in open systems. The call was very upbeat, but left
me wondering if EMC has something else up its sleeve with this deal. They will
have a meeting in NY on Nov 6th to discuss new products. McData must have some
propriatary technology that EMC thinks will be big. I guess we will have to wait to find
out, but in the mean time, the stock should be up tommorrow.
