Worldtalk Introduces NetTalk -- A Plug and Play Intranet Messaging and Directory Server
Windows NT solution allows deployment of standards-based e-mail and directory systems
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 9, 1996--Building on its lead in messaging and directory solutions, Worldtalk Communications Corp , a leading provider of directory-based solutions that enable managed deployment and expansion of corporate Intranets, today announced NetTalk, a plug-and-play intranet messaging and directory server.
Running on Windows NT and based on Internet protocols, NetTalk provides native intranet e-mail and directory services as well as comprehensive message switching and directory synchronization among proprietary groupware applications. Targeted toward small to midsize organizations or departments within larger organizations, NetTalk provides POP3/SMTP e-mail services, LDAP directory services and built-in connectors to Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, and LAN-based e-mail systems such as Lotus cc:Mail.
"As Internet standards-based e-mail applications take center stage, it is good to see vendors such as Worldtalk approaching that market with solutions that are strong on directory and security services," said David Ferris, principal at Ferris Research, a messaging research firm.
NetTalk is designed to provide fast and robust SMTP-based Messaging Transfer Agents (MTA) capable of switching thousands of messages per hour between heterogeneous mail systems, the Internet and local intranets. NetTalk also includes an X.500-based LDAP directory that consolidates user addressing, profile, and security information that may be dispersed across several directories on a network. This eliminates the need for stand-alone intranet directories.
"We believe NetTalk is the ideal solution for organizations transforming their existing network into a full service intranet," said Simon Khalaf, vice president of product marketing at Worldtalk.
"It allows organizations to deploy intranet backbones without abandoning their existing LAN-based systems or feature-rich applications such as Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange. With NetTalk, systems administrators can offer their users a choice of e-mail applications that best meet their needs."
NetTalk facilitates a managed migration to intranet backbones by providing connectivity to LAN-based e-mail systems -- such as Lotus cc:Mail -- helping to preserve investments in existing hardware and software solutions. The 1993 Compliant X.500 Directory provides automatic directory synchronization for e-mail directories and address books, as well as a distributed intranet directory, significantly reducing overall management costs. |
