8/2/2019 Contest update
A Thursday Tariff Man trade tweet trolled world markets and biotechs were not exempt. But, for the week, the Contest median and the biotech sector in general held up a bit better than the tech-heavy, China-exposed Nasdaq Composite.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 15.17% YTD (vs. up 14.58% a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 8.45% YTD (vs. up 8.70% a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 16.55% YTD (vs. up 18.96% a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 20.63% YTD (vs. up 25.54% YTD a week ago).
BULBA’s portfolio held on to the Contest lead with a 105.12% YTD gain. OHMS’ portfolio, up 64.47% YTD, remained in second place and ANDRE’s portfolio, up 58.49% YTD, climbed into third place.
At Friday's close, 30 of the 39 Contest portfolios were now in the green, while 25 were beating the NBI and 19 were beating the SPSIBI.
The 167 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 19.64% and a median YTD gain of 5.88%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: ARRY buyout at $48 by Pfizer closed. Two portfolios held ARRY, ARTHUR and DEWO. For convenience, I used 8/2/19 closing prices for reallocation but will reconsider if there are objections.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy the first August weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
