Saw the Movie, U 537 today. A great WWII flick. I know the era pretty well, and the Subs. Only one thing got me grumpy. One of the main characters is a black mess steward on the Sub. There were no blacks of any kind on WWII subs. The producers of the movie knew that. I am not proud of the way the navy treated minorities, but that's the way it was. This change of history must have been done as a desire to be politically correct, or to appease some pressure group. It either case, it was a deliberate distortion of history that was not necessary for the story line. Can you imagine a movie about the "Buffalo Soldiers" that had a white soldier added to the ranks to appease someone? The screams from the black community would be endless. Well, that is my "Curmudgeon" addition for the evening.
