Here is more information on market maker behavior in these high volume stocks from another thread. The following was posted by a broker to their website:

FOR TRADERS OF EXTREMELY VOLATILE, HIGH VOLUME INTERNET RELATED
AND OTHER STOCKS (such as YHOO, LCOS, EBAY, NAVR and any other similarly
active stocks)

1. Placing orders in these stocks such as these is very risky

2. The quote you see cannot be relied upon to provide ANY indication of the price ultimately paid or
received

3. There is no indication as to when the market maker will ultimately execute the order, given that they
are reserving their right to execute MARKET orders against the actual size of the quote AT ANY
TIME. The MARKET MAKERS are within their rights to exercise this right under the order handling
rules of the NASD and the SEC.

4. It could be several minutes before a market order is executed and the price could be substantially
higher or lower than that indicated now.
