Am actually glad consumer retail spending dipped (was .3% instead of .8). It means consumers have internalized the increase in gas prices. Everyone on this thread new it was coming, but the big question was when.

Am glad it happened now, better to get it over with sooner. Consumers will adjust their habits to reduce consumption, start buying hybrids (even AMD thread resident zofsilence is looking into a Honda hybrid). The sooner the consumer adjusts their habits and the sooner alternative energy solutions are purchased, the sooner hightech investments get back on track. I think the dip in retail could be the signal of an oil price peak. Since retail sales got slammed, it's possible Intc will get slammed too. But better to see the consumer adjust now rather than later, because it means we're that much closer to getting out of this oil-focused phase of our current economic times.

Regards,
Amy J
