Try looking at the facts instead of the rumors and you'll see that SGI has NOT encouraged employees to take any *UNPAID* vacation (which was the rumor you attempted to spread).

Yes, I asked about unpaid vacation. My understanding of the situation is that employees are able to take unpaid time off or use up two days of accrued vacation. Is this not true, is SGI giving away two days of extra paid vacation?

As for looking at the facts and not the rumours, before the announcement, there were no facts. I posted asking for clarification of a rumour I had heard. If in fact you were aware of the situation involving the furlough, your response was delibertly misleading through omission which, IMHO, is quite a bit worse than asking about something clearly identified as a rumour in the first place.

BTW, sorry you took offense. My intention was to illustrate a situation common to many of us in the high tech industry were if the company is of any size greater than a couple of hundred or so employees, the big corporate decisions are as much a surprise to joe engineer as they are to the general public. Not to single out anyone in particular.
