Re: Intel demos dual-core Xeons

LOL !!! AMD is shipping production volumes of dual core parts NOW.

They demoed dual core server CPUs in standard, production boxes 9 months ago.

AMD has been shipping dual core ready servers for TWO YEARS that are easily upgraded to dual core with a bios flash and new CPUs.

People like me who bought AMD servers are sitting pretty. Chumps who bought (or buy, for many months yet to come) Intel based systems are screwed - they need to buy all new boxes.

My systems are ready for Windows Server X86, too - which uses Microsoft's new secure kernel. Chumps who bought Intel based systems are screwed - they need to buy all new boxes to run 64-bit Windows and its secure kernel.

Advanced Micro Devices said Tuesday it was demonstrating its first dual-core microprocessors along with HP’s four-way server machine at its facilities in Austin, Texas. The announcement marks availability of the world’s first x86-64 processors and confirms AMD’s position to ship commercial dual-core chips next year.

AMD’s Direct Connect Shows Path to Multi-Core Designs

Sunnyvale, California-based AMD says its AMD64 architecture was developed to allow multiple processing engines inside single microprocessor from the ground up, a platform AMD names Direct Connect Architecture. All AMD’s 64-bit Opteron processors shipping today were designed to add second processing core, which means that the chips contained crossbar/system request interface.
