Intel did not only lose the performance crown, but it will not conquer it back for single processors. Intel stopped the P4-development and the new "Wonder-CPU" still needs time.

Next Multi-core will be a weak transition products and then sometime at the beginning of of 2007 (if possible on schedule) new products, which will be rather successors of Pentium-3 and Pentium-M.

Nobody will know how good those will be in the long run before the end of 2006.

There is a high risk for delays and even failure. Intel would not be the first processor market leader, that by a large conversion loses the market leadership (see 1982-86 Zilog, Z80 -- Z80000).
