Allen, I may have missed the post, but I don't believe anyone has responded to this, so I'll take a shot.

I don't know how the Martians do it, but the Earthlings may have placed breakpoints in the code and ran the little robot thru it's exercise. By stepping thru the code and eliminating tasks they finally determined the problem area. They then patched in code that would allow them to try different possibilities until they got it right.

Possibly too wind has some type of audit facility that made finding the problem area even easier. They also may have used simulation on earth to find the problem due to timing constraints. After simulating the tasks on earth, they would determine the proper patch and download this to the little monster. Now give me the real nitty gritty. Bruce
