The news that Bush didn't know about the port deal (until it was approved) is not helpful to him, even though it sounds like the White House is putting it out there as if it would. If Bush didn't know until a few days ago, the theory that there's an important qui pro quo relating to the UAE's help in the war on terror kind of evaporates. I still think the story is overblown, but this takes one defense away from the president.
