That is what many believe. There is a program in Minnesota where you can pay more for your electricity and the extra goes to subsidize wind and solar power. A few years ago a guy called a local talk show and bragged about how he was getting wind and solar to power his house even though he was on the same grid as all of his neighbors in Minneapolis. He actually thought that thru some sort of magic technology that the power company was sending him only electricity from wind and solar.
