PA Gov. Rendell Opposes Voter ID Bill

posted by Jason
Generation Why?

In a move to keep the corrupt Democrat election machine alive and well, Governor Rendell has threatened to veto a bill that would require voters to show identification at the polls. He tosses out the standard lines about disenfranchising the elderly and the poor. Noticeably absent from his charge is that it would disenfranchise blacks. Perhaps it's because his opponent this Fall is Lynn Swann, a black Republican, who says:
"The idea that presenting a form of identification would
somehow disenfranchise people is as ridiculous as it is
untrue"
But despite Rendell's opposition, the bill still isn't tough enough.

<<< Under the bill that cleared the Legislature last week, each voter would have to show election workers a form of identification such as a driver's license; U.S. passport; student, employee or government ID; county voter registration card; firearm permit; current utility bill; or current bank statement, pay check or government check. >>>

It appears you still don't have to show a photo ID, you could simply pick up a utility bill out of someone's garbage and use it to vote.

<<< Democrats generally opposed the change, claiming it would lead to countless voter challenges and create long lines that would discourage voting. >>>

And they think the threat of fraudulent ballots cast doesn't discourage voting? It's discouraging to think that a system without security measures disenfranchises many more voters than a requirement to show ID.

<<< Rendell, citing a letter from the League of Women Voters, said there is no compelling evidence that any Pennsylvania election has been affected by ineligible people posing as registered voters. >>>

No compelling evidence? I saw it firsthand.
