No, not "in that transaction", but regardless, you called him a bigot.
You recognize that the "bigot" comment was on another topic, I see. On the topic of the poll adjustment, he is simply mistaken, if not out-argued.
As for the bigot comment, yeah, that was strong and direct, maybe too strong, dunno. But so was the defamation. How do we as civilized, polite people deal with such blatant bigotry? Does antisemitism not get called antisemitism on this thread? Of course it does, even when it is thinner than the defamation in question. Of course, lefties are freely defamed here and that defamation is applauded so the thread is not consistent on the principle of defamation of minority groups. In either case, bigotry is still bigotry. Done with it.
So do we civilized people just let it go, hold our noses and look the other way? Do we tolerate it, even appease it?
There's very little over which I will take such a strong stand but I have been very sensitive to "first they came for the communists..." ever since I first read that quote as a child and took it to heart. I always speak up when defamation of minority groups is as bold as that one. I didn't respond to the original comment because I wanted to see how Bill handled it. I did not expect his "I am not a Jew" response. Needless to say, I was disappointed.
I've spoken up as my "internal ethical code" requires. Finis.
(Note for the parse patrol. I have treated "secularist" based on Bill's apparent interpretation of its usage, which is not as nuanced as mine. <g>) |
