I have always called those types of folks the ayn randians. Is that who you were talking about?

Yes. The problem is she tired to build a theory of economics based on epistemology. Since the latter is largely shifting sand, especially wrt to understanding psychology half a century ago, it is no surprise she ended up with some nonsense. In college, I had many friends taking business who revered her, so I'm well used to the religion of it. I have read some of her fiction, which struck me more as fantasy than fiction.

It was not until I read a quote from the physicist Steven Wienberg (sp?) to the effect that "the only use for philosophy seems to be to protect us from the effects of prior worse philosophy" that I really understood Ayn. If I had grown up in communist Russia, I might feel the same way.

The two hallmarks of economic Randians that I often note is the total confusion over evolutionary biology, and a great fondness for Karl Popper. It is no wonder they have problems.
