Seventy years ago you probably would have said much the same about the German Army 70 years ago there wasn't a strong international norm against doing such a thing. As Hitler remarked, does anyone remember the Armenians? Today it would be an outrage. Don't think China doesn't care about Tianamen - they are very touchy about it. And that was peanuts compared to mowing down thousands of refugees crossing the Yalu.
