Court Denies Symantec's Request for
Injunction Against McAfee PC Medic

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The United
States District Court in San Jose on Dec. 19 denied completely
a second Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC - news) request for an
injunction against McAfee PC Medic. This favorable ruling for
Network Associates (Nasdaq: NETA - news) ends all
outstanding Symantec requests for preliminary injunction
against any of the company's products.

Symantec claimed that aspects of PC Medic violated its
copyright. However, during the proceedings Symantec's own
expert concluded that the code in question was ''substantially
and fundamentally different'' from any Symantec code. In light
of this and other evidence, the court denied Symantec's request
for an injunction.

''We are again vindicated by the court's ruling and feel that this
should settle the matter,'' said Peter Watkins, general manager
of Network Associates.

Given the judge's favorable ruling for Network Associates on
this and previous motions, the company has decided to drop its
defamation suit against Symantec.

''We hope that Symantec's executive team will receive this
gesture with the good will with which it is intended, accept the
court's ruling, and return to competing in the marketplace,''
added Watkins.
