MRVC appears to be one step ahead (again), although I don't really see Gig Ethernet generating any real revenue until next year.

Specifically, in a recent announcement ANCR mentioned something to the effect that they will "figure out how to overcome distance limitations." Isn't this exactly the problem MRVC has already addressed...? Check out the recent press releases from MRVC.

It appears that ANCR is really a fibre channel company trying to be a Gig Ethernet company. Indeed, they only joined the Gig Ether arena very recently. This isn't a "bad" thing for ANCR, however, the late entry of a company like ANCR would seem to point out that standards are evolving; moreover, revenues from Gig Ether are some ways away. ANCR has no product in the exploding Fast Ethernet (100M) arena as far as I know, and is not yet profitable.

Investors should focus on companies which have products which are already out there, bases on set standards, and are selling like hotcakes. MRVC with the Megaswitch 2 (100M) is just such a company.

For more speculative investors, look to companies that are betting on the future of Ethernet (Gig), like MRVC, or are attempting to move into the Ethernet market, like ANCR. If MRVC really does have a Gig Ether product out soon, I am sure it will be a good one. Until then, earnings are in the black and growing at 100%+ anyway.

A networking market is not there until the standards are set, and product is being sold em masse which adhere to those standards.
