The Left's Civil War

Blogs for Bush

While President Bush is fighting the War on Terror, the Democratic Party is fighting the War on Bush.

Democrats were screaming "Aha! It's Bush's fault!" before the inked dried on the news stories that said Iraq was on the verge of civil war. The fact of the matter is, the worse things are in Iraq, the better things are for Democrats politically. We know it. They know it. And their strategy reflects it.

Meanwhile, those who supported the war are labeled "cheerleaders," and those who didn't pretend politics has nothing to do with their opposition to military action, despite the fact they sat on their hands during Desert Fox and kept their mouths shut and pens down during other military operations courtesy of Bill Clinton.

When it comes to the war on terror, Democrats seem interested in doing anything but actually fighting terror. They can't bear the thought of a 20-something Middle Eastern male being singled out to be searched at an airport, yet they scream at the top of their lungs when terrorists in this country are wiretapped. They also patted themselves on the back when they thought they killed legislation that gives us the tools we need to fight terrorism. Whatever their priorities are, national security is not one of them.

The left just don't seem to understand that we are fighting a war here. They look at the war on terror as another political campaign that is fought in the media, judged by polls, and a cause by which to raise money. They saw headlines about a possible civil war in Iraq, and they saw it as an opportunity to play politics, another example they could point to say that the war was wrong and Bush made a mess of Iraq.

Since I started saying that Democrats have been hoping for the worst in Iraq, I've read a number of comments from liberals denying it. But their actions prove their rhetoric is false. They dismissed stories that contradict the idea that a civil war in brewing in Iraq, and they bring up any article they can find that reinforces what they want to believe... and yes, they want to believe it.

These are the same people who convinced themselves prior to the presidential election in 2004 that bin Laden had already been captured and Bush was waiting until close to the election to reveal the news to boost his chances of reelection. Such conspiracy theories were repeated by former Secretary of State Madeline Albright, and Teresa Heinz-Kerry. You don't need any more proof than that to realize they see the war on terror as a political issue, not a national security issue.

There is a civil war going on, but it's not in Iraq. The civil war is happening here between the Democrats and America. As President Bush fights the war on terror, the Democrats have chosen politics over security virtually every time, even at the expense of national security. If the Democrats win that civil war, America will lose the war on terror.
